Frequently Asked Questions

Is the VLBA now called the LBO?

No; the instrument name, VLBA, remains. LBO is the organization that runs the VLBA. This in direct analogy with the NRAO running the VLA.

What is the status of Open Skies under LBO?

The LBO will continue to respect the Open Skies model for proposals submitted in response to the semiannual solicitations. Under this model proposals will be ranked by scientific merit with the best being awarded telescope time, regardless of the origin of the proposal.

How much observing time is available to the Open Skies community?

No less than half of available telescope time (e.g., outside maintenance and testing) will be available to the Open Skies community. The remainder will be available to the LBO partner institutions.
